The Big Publishers
Though it is doubtful that large publishing houses will positively view dPub at first, eventually they will begin using the system or create their own tBooks just the way financial firms are beginning to take advantage of crypto by selling ETFs and other products. For the large publishing houses, the movement towards decentralization will mean increased profits for being able to mass market their tBooks. Already having an infrasctucture allows them to readily adapt to this market.
Publishers can return to creating and marketing books for their large clients by creating a bookenomics that fits the client rather than fitting the client to the market. This will allow for a more diverse and inclusive market while remaining profitable and particular about who to market.
The Small Publishers
The day of the small publishing house may yet return! dPub provides a means for anyone who understands the tokenomics and blockchain system to create their own publishing house. Authors comfortable with coding and possessing knowledge of crypto will be able to self-publish thus eliminating the publisher if they so desire but many authors do not possess the technical skill or understanding to mint coins, design tBooks, and create liquidity pools. This is where the small publisher comes in. The small publisher can handle the bookenomics and the actual design of the tBook which requires some understanding of coding. A new cottage industry of publishing now opens where tBooks are created allowing for decreased cost, and most importantly, reduced competition.
A New Marketing Paradigm
Every stakeholder in tBooks should embrace this technology since dPub expands marketing reach and adds long-term value to a product with little to no resale value. Publishers large and small can operate with confidence because they do not compete for market share but instead share the market. Every book is an investment, and while firms might compete for popular authors, their survival is not dependent on that author.
Almost all authors now have value in the tBook market!
The new marketing paradigm is one of cooperation and collaboration. The publisher is no longer the gatekeeper but the facilitator. The author is no longer the creator but the investment. The reader is no longer the consumer but the investor (both in themselves and in the author.) The market is no longer a place of competition but a place of cooperation.
